Capt DeWayne McMullin

Capt Edward DeWayne McMullin (prefers to be called DeWayne) is the California Wing Director of Finance. In this role, McMullin is be responsible to assure the Wing is in compliance with the 173 series regulations relating to financial procedures and accounting in cooperation with the Wing headquarters staff.

McMullin joined Civil Air Patrol in the Maine Wing in 1963 as a cadet. Over a seven-year period, he worked his way to the rank of C/Lt. Col. and served in numerous staff positions including Cadet Commander of a Composite Squadron in Bangor, Maine. He was the sixth Maine Wing cadet to achieve the Amelia Earhart award. During 1968 he served as the Cadet Commander at the power flight school in eastern PA where he earned his single engine land pilot license. Over the summer of 1969 he represented the Maine Wing in the International Air Cadet Exchange program with an assignment in Belgium. That same year he was recognized as the outstanding cadet of the year for the Maine Wing.

McMullin obtained two undergraduate degrees in business from the University of Maine, one of which was financed by a Civil Air Patrol scholarship. He also earned an MBA at Syracuse University followed by an MA in Gerontology at the University of Southern California. Following the completion of his formal education he was employed over ten years by two of the big eight international accounting firms (Price Waterhouse and Ernst) where he obtained his Certified Public Accountant license. His primarily client focus was not for profit and health care organizations. After fifteen years of direct industry experience he purchased a senior living housing development company and over a twenty year period his company developed 30 retirement communities across the nation and consulted to hundreds of clients. Three years ago he wound down the development company, opened a CPA practice and currently serves clients with offices in La Canada and Walnut Creek.

McMullin is a member of Squadron CA 116 (San Fernando at Whiteman Airport) along with his son Connor. Both recently attended the California Wing Encampment. Captain McMullin maintains households in La Canada (near the Rose Bowl) and Walnut Creek with his wife, Mary. His son (Connor) will shortly start his second year at Emory Riddle University where he is focusing on an Aeronautical Engineering degree.

His family also includes three older daughters that are off on their own (one as a graphic designer, one as an insurance executive and one a grade school teacher) along with four grandchildren. Aside from his CPA practice and Civil Air Patrol, he serves on the Board of Directors of Methodist Hospital of Southern California, AYSO soccer (where he is also on the referee instruction staff and referee’s youth soccer matches on weekends as time permits) in addition to the Boards of two southern California senior living communities.
