Maj James Bertz

Maj James Bertz, CAP first joined Civil Air Patrol in May of 2013. He was drawn to the Emergency Services aspect of CAP having a history working as both a volunteer firefighter and volunteer Search and Rescue team member in Madera County and later Los Angeles County.

Maj Bertz quickly rose to the Emergency Services qualification of Ground Team Leader and is currently the California Wing Ground Team Training Officer. He has a standard rating as a GTL, LSC, MS, MO, GBD, CUL and MSO.  In addition to working in ES, Maj Bertz gravitated toward transportation, initially starting as the vehicle manager for Squadron 64, Maj Bertz eventually became the Group 1 Transportation Officer and then the California Wing Transportation Officer.

Maj Bertz is currently a standing member of the National Headquarters “Transportation Utilization Group” (TUG), a body is responsible for updating the current regulations and policies around corporate vehicles within CAP.

Maj Bertz is a registered nurse where, for years, he worked as an emergency room nurse then later moved into the field of nursing informatics and he currently works for Kaiser Permanente configuring their electronic medical record system.
